4 Day Mid North Island itinerary

Auckland - Tauranga - Rotorua - Taupo

Day 1

Auckland - Tauranga

              

Begin in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, situated between two enormous harbour's, enjoy marine adventures, wine trails and forest walks.

Before you go you must also experience some of Auckland's food and wine, locally grown produce, seafood caught daily and taste some of the areas Award winning wines Travel on 3 hours to Tauranga.

Day 2

Tauranga - Rotorua

The charming town of Tauranga is located on the north-east coast of New Zealand, right in the heart of the Bay of Plenty. Tauranga has an excellent range of restaurants and cafes. Bay of Plenty offers the ultimate marine encounter, the opportunity to swim with, or just observe, dolphins in their natural environment.

Travel just over 1 hour on to Rotorua.

Day 3

Rotorua - Taupo 

Just over 1 hours drive from Tauranga, is the city of Rotorua. Best known for its traditional Maori Culture and geothermal activity, this holiday destination is vibrant all year round.

  • Paradise Valley Springs Wildlife Park
  • Skyline Skyrides
  • Hiking, Jet Boating, Sky Diving, Rafting

Rotorua is a great place to base yourself for day trip around the central North Island, before you go make sure you experience some Maori culture with an evening at the Mitai, this will give you an authentic insight to our Maori culture.

Drive just over an hour on to Taupo

Day 4

Taupo

The town of Taupo sits at the North-east corner of the magnificent Lake Taupo, the largest lake in the whole of Australasia, located in the heart of New Zealands North Island, like Rotorua it is famous for the geothermal activity.

Some Taupo Highlights:

  • Huka Falls
  • Debretts Hot Springs Spa
  • Sky Diving, Rapid Jet, Quad Biking, Helicopter Scenic Flights
  • Orakei Korako Cave & Thermal Park

Other outdoor adventures worth experencing include skiing (in winter months), diving trout fishing, boating, bungy jumping and 4WD tours. Travel 4 hours back to Auckland or alternatively continue on your journey south to encounter more of what New Zealand has to offer.
